Okay, so I need to post a new blog because it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. I’m not really one of those people who wants or likes to have my most inner thoughts posted for the world to read. I will say that I’m a little nervous about going into my room on Monday morning. I was unexpectedly absent on Friday due to the worst cold I’ve ever had. I have never called in sick to work and was unprepared to leave my kids with their sub on a Friday. She was in far better shape to teach them than I was. That being said, I have no idea what my room will like Monday morning. I’m also worried about one of my students. I finally gained his trust, and I’m afraid that my absence may have sent him into a tail spin. So, this isn’t a science related blog, but a blog it is.

Yesterday, my class did their first science experiment. We are learning about plants and plant parts. I took lima beans in for the kids to plant. Hopefully, we will have sprouts Monday morning. We looked at lima beans before they were soaked in water and then what they looked like after they had been soaked. We observed the similarities and differences. Then, the kids were all given their own lima beans to “grow” in a plastic baggie. They were so excited about the activity! On Monday, I’m supposed to begin teaching procedural writing. The first thing we’ll write about is what we did yesterday. Even though we are beginning addition, I thought I could pair the students and have them add up how many sprouts grow from the “seeds” we planted.

Does anyone else have any other plant integration ideas?
